@nunsenseforthepeople: What things do you get from going to church? Let me know in the comments. We can get so many great benefits from a good church community. BTW: I am one of those little old ladies who will welcome you at coffee hour!! #nuntok #episcopal #convent #progressivechristianity #deconstructingchristanity

Does the Episcopal church have Confession? As a non-practicing Catholic, not having gone to Confession for…over 40 years (yikes!) I’m a bit intimidated to start going. Also, being gay is not typically accepted in Catholic society. You Episcopalians seem to have all the right answers. (Except I really like the Pope) 🥰

My old church told me they were sorry my mom was in hell for killing herself. Now I’m glad to go to an Episcopal church.

When I ask people who preach that church is essential (I recently moved to the south), they tell me it’s mostly about community, which on the surface seems great, but they always have quantifiers. You have to fit their norm of a Christian. Community can be found in other places. It would be nice to find a church that followed the true teachings of Jesus…the Socialist that he was. I had quite a cultural shock of the performative religion that people here think make them a good Christian; wearing Jesus T-shirts, car stickers and always “praying” for you, yet they would deny a child a free lunch. The more I live in the south, the less church-going Christian I want to be.

This is so comforting. I didn’t grow up religious, but in the last year or two have started going to episcopal services occasionally. My preferred church is all things you’ve described - very welcoming, but not hovering, and I’ve found a lot of peace in the services. However I’ve always been too shy to attend the coffee hours because I worry I’m not “godly” enough to fit in. Maybe this message is right on time. Thank you sister Monica Clare 🩵

Does the Episcopal church force people to hold hands or shake hands with the "sign of peace"? 😳

I’ve been to many churches as an adult and just could never get comfortable anywhere. Even having been baptized Episcopalian. I miss the ritual aspect of it sometimes and the recitation with other live people. We are the stand-up-sit-down people! lol I’m terribly introverted.

I agree. I grew up Methodist, but church was just church and as I go older I went less and less. Then in May I discovered the episcopal church and went to one in my city. I instantly fell in love with the service style. I didn’t feel judged or anything just very welcomed.

Stopped attending years ago because of bad experiences. Considering finding a new church, thanks for the insight

❤️I have happily been attending an Episcopal church for about nine months. The first time I knelt to pray, I knew I was where I should be.❤️

I was raised as a Catholic and I never felt like it was right for me. My mom insisted (more like forced) us to go to religious education because that’s what she knew and honestly I grew up with a lot of resentment. I got nothing out of it. As a family we never went to church. I found it so hypocritical. However, I really like the Episcopal Church. I find everyone warm and welcoming. It’s comfortable and feels like home. ❤️🙏🏻❤️

I really appreciate you. You are so down to earth and authentic. People who say they don’t like organized religion need to hear this.

It’s not about what I get out of going to church. It’s about giving our God and Savior the worship and thanks that is due in justice to the Author and Giver of life. If I get something out of it, then that’s icing on the cake.

I went to my first church service on Sunday. A small medieval church with about 10 attendants! Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. I felt very uplifted afterwards ❤️
