@emergencymobiletechs: The AI race just took a very strange turn. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei says frontier AI development needs to slow down — warning that increasingly capable AI-agent swarms could pose serious cyber risks within the next 6–12 months. Sam Altman and Elon Musk have backed the broader call to pace development. And days earlier, former OpenAI and Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon walked away from Anthropic before his equity vested, publicly warning about where the AI race is headed. 👇 If the people building the most powerful AI are worried, should the rest of us be worried too? New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill signed a law on March 25, 2026, barring law enforcement officers at any level of government, including federal ICE agents, from wearing masks while interacting with the public, a measure that has since drawn a federal lawsuit from the Trump administration. The Law Enforcement Officer Protection Act requires officers to identify themselves and their agency before making an arrest, with exceptions carved out for undercover work, tactical operations, medical masks and certain safety threats. “I can’t believe we have to say this, but in the United States of America, we’re not going to tolerate masked, roving militias pretending to be well-trained law enforcement agents,” Sherrill said at the bill-signing ceremony. New Jersey became the third state, after California and Washington, to impose such a ban. Officers who violate it face disorderly persons charges. The Department of Justice sued Sherrill and state Attorney General Jennifer Davenport on April 29, 2026, calling the law a “blatantly unconstitutional ban” that “recklessly disregards officer safety and federal operational needs.” Federal attorneys have argued in court filings that New Jersey cannot dictate how federal agents identify themselves, writing that if the state wishes to change federal conduct, “its officials should win federal elections, not try to criminalize federal law enforcement.” A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said after a masked arrest in Jackson that agents “will not abide by this unconstitutional ban.” New Jersey has pushed back, with Davenport saying the law “protects both law enforcement and the public by limiting the use of masking while including careful exceptions to protect law enforcement safety and operational needs.” The state has also submitted sworn declarations describing masked agents confronting elementary schoolchildren and elderly residents in support of keeping the law in place. The case remains before a federal judge in New Jersey, with a similar mask-ban fight now also playing out in New York.
