A defendant charged in the Preston Lord case is back in jail on a $2 million cash-only bond. Talyn Vigil was arrested Tuesday and booked into a Maricopa County jail early Wednesday, hours before a hearing on whether to revoke his release. An initial appearance judge set the bond overnight. If he posts it, he would return to the same release conditions as before: electronic monitoring, house arrest, and alcohol and drug testing. Vigil is charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping in the death of 16-year-old Preston Lord, who was beaten outside a Halloween party in Queen Creek on Oct. 28, 2023, and died two days later. He was indicted in March 2024, posted a $1 million bond the next month, and has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors say he has been arrested three times on misdemeanor charges while out on bond. The first involved an order of protection in 2025, and in June he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors in Gilbert and received probation. The most recent was in September in Tempe, where police accused him of reckless riding and speeding. A judge denied a similar request to revoke his release in April, and a hearing last week ended without a ruling. His attorney calls the push to hold him until trial

The most recent was in September in Tempe, where police accused him of reckless riding and speeding. A judge denied a similar request to revoke his release in April, and a hearing last week ended without a ruling. His attorney calls the push to hold him until trial "unheard-of." Six defendants remain in the case, and all have pleaded not guilty. William Hines, the only one sentenced so far, received 12 years after a manslaughter plea. The first trial, for Jacob Meisner, is slated for early November. Vigil's next Tempe municipal court date is Oct. 22.
