@iamwillatherton: Most people probably think that because my dad’s a canine behaviourist, we spend all day training our dogs… But he actually says that if most owners taught their dog just two things really, really well, it would make about 99% of everyday problems easier. Inside the house: crate training. It gives your dog a safe place to switch off, helps build calmness and independence, and means they don’t need to be involved in absolutely everything happening around them. Outside the house: loose lead walking. Because if your dog can walk calmly beside you, stay connected with you and move through the world without dragging you everywhere, life gets a whole lot easier. Obviously there’s loads more you can teach your dog.
