@kevankenney: Jay Z wore them on stage, Fabolous wore hundreds of them, John Cena threw them into the crowd, and almost nobody knows where the throwback jersey era actually started or who is responsible for it. In 1998, Big Boi became the first rapper on record in a throwback, wearing a rainbow stripe Houston Astros uniform in Goodie Mob's Black Ice video and a 1982 Dale Murphy Atlanta Braves jersey in OutKast's Skew It on the Bar B, and Kanye West later told Zane Lowe that Big Boi had the throwbacks first. In 1999, Jay Z wore a 1947 Sammy Baugh Washington Redskins throwback on stage during the Hard Knock Life Tour. Every one of those jerseys came from Mitchell & Ness, a small Philadelphia store that was remaking gray flannel baseball uniforms for older fans. In April 2001, a West Philadelphia customer named Reuben "Big Rube" Harley, who had been buying from the store since 1991, walked into owner Peter Capolino's office and told him he did not know what he had. Capolino later told Time magazine that Harley deserved all the credit. Harley pushed Mitchell & Ness into mesh and hot colors like the powder blue Braves, and the company would not make anything smaller than an XXL. By the end of 2002, Jay Z was name dropping Mitchell & Ness on The Blueprint 2, John Cena was buying $500 Mitchell & Ness jerseys in every WWE city and throwing them into the crowd, women were wearing throwbacks as belted jersey dresses, and NBA Street Vol. 2 made throwbacks an unlockable reward. In January 2003, LeBron James was ruled ineligible at St. Vincent St. Mary for accepting two throwbacks worth $845, a year after a 17 year old LeBron met a 21 year old Rich Paul at the Akron airport because Paul was wearing a Warren Moon Houston Oilers throwback he sold out of his trunk. Mitchell & Ness sales went from $2.2 million in 1999 to $36 million in 2003, and that November the company built Jay Z his own Roc A Fella Records jersey and raised it to the rafters of Madison Square Garden. Mitchell & Ness opened a new Walnut Street flagship in Philadelphia in May 2026. So who deserves the credit for the throwback era: Big Boi, Jay Z, or a customer who never rapped a bar? And which throwback did you own? #throwbackjersey #2000s #2000sthrowback #throwback #2000sfashion

Leftos :
my man Fabolous was the Ford to rock it and make it real nice because he first rocked the Mitchell and Ness Bob McAdoo Buffalo Braves jersey and then Bow Wow just blew it out of proportion when his single "Let's Get Down" came out. then Jay-Z came out and everyone else killed it
