WRONG!❌🙅🏽‍♀️ Tax brackets aren't one flat rate applied to everything you earn. They're tiers. Slices. The first chunk of your income gets taxed at one rate. The next chunk at a different rate. Only the money inside each bracket gets taxed at that rate. If you're single making $70,000/year, after the standard deduction, that's about $54,000 in taxable income. The first $12,400 is taxed at 10%. The next $38,000 is taxed at 12%. And only the last $3,500 touches the 22% bracket. And only the last $3,500 touches the 22% bracket. You didn't pay 22% on all of it. Just that top slice. The misconception costs you twice. Once because you're afraid to earn more. And again because you don't understand what you're actually paying.
