Might be about me. It was 21k so not too crazy but today, I’m debt free and having family dinner tonight (which stopped a while ago due to $$) I feel great about it. Anyway….making meatballs now, not snowballs.

I took a loan against mine. Who cares it’s building back up. I could be dead tomorrow

I pulled from it like a year ago I’m repaying it in 3 years. But at least at the moment it helped the situation.

Years ago I had $100k cc debt following a job loss and medical issue. Got a job, rolled over 401k, and used 401k loan to pay the debt. Fourteen years later I have a net worth of $2M. Best thing I ever did.

You lose half by taking it out why would anyone want to lose half their money?

100% the right move. My father passed with hundreds of thousands in retirement funds he never got to use.

You can take a loan out against it, and all your payments + interest go back to yourself. Not bad move in a time of desperation

Loan yes. You pay yourself back interest

I’ve taken several loans over the years and now I’m about to withdraw all the money and pay off my mortgage. I was laid off and I don’t want to worry about loosing house if I can get a job right away. Severance will pay off car and student loan.

Not into withdrawals. Now loan….maybe. Also depends on the amount and if she’s addressed why she got into cc debt in the first place.

401k loan is where it’s at. Pay yourself pay PLUS the interest goes back to you too.

I can’t seem to take any loans or withdrawals out of mine unless it’s to help pay for emergency funding, deceased or like adoption fees or something 🙄

I took a loan out of mine 2 months ago. A year ago we bought some new windows and got a loan that would be interest free if we paid it off in a year.. then my husband lost his job. So we weren’t able to pay it off like we thought. So I took out the loan amount from my 401k, the interest on the original loan was going to be an additional 3k for just a year, so I figured we’d be saving money and I’m paying myself interest.

Yes, I did this a couple months ago. I took a loan out and paid off all my debt. 💸 now I’m paying myself back every month.

wondering if her c/c spending was ridiculously out of control OR did she not fund her 401K very well

401K loans, YES - do not withdrawal as a whole! The loans you pay yourself back including the interest!

She stated she had other investments. From someone who's had a union 401k for 26 yrs and withdrew 3 times, I kick myself in the head thinking about how much I would have now (with 20yrs left to retire).
But tomorrow isn't promised, and if you're young and have many years ahead of you, there's still time to bounce back. It's either withdraw or have some looming debt over your head, not allowing you to sleep at night.

Normallly no but if you are in a bad financial spot is better to start with no debt.
