Be willing to make your characters unlikable, because a true morally grey character should have people who like them and people who hate them. It shouldn’t be near universal swooning.

A morally grey character does things that leave readers questioning whether the character is good or bad—at least, that’s how I see it. For example, say a guy k!lls an abuser. He’s doing it for a good reason, but he is still inflicting violence. Would he be any better? To the victim yes, but legally he’s considered a murderer.

Morally grey isn't morally inconsistent fr. I hate seeing people frame it like: X character does good things for people they favor and war crimes against their enemies. That's not grey that's just self serving.
