In fact, one of the most confusing avoidant attachment behaviors after a breakup is how quickly an avoidant ex can appear to move on. They may start dating someone new, enter a rebound relationship, post the new person on social media, or seem completely unaffected while you are still trying to understand what happened. But avoidant attachment often involves distancing from uncomfortable emotions. After a breakup, a dismissive avoidant or fearful avoidant may focus on someone new before they have fully processed the loss of the old relationship. A rebound can provide novelty, validation, distraction, and emotional distance from the grief they do not want to sit with. That does NOT mean every avoidant rebound is secretly about their ex, and it does not guarantee they will come back. But a new relationship is not proof that an avoidant attachment style ex has processed the breakup, healed, forgotten you, or stopped having feelings for you. This is why no contact with an avoidant ex can be so confusing. From the outside, they may look like they moved on instantly. Internally, their emotional timeline may look very different. So if your avoidant ex moved on quickly after the breakup, stop using their rebound relationship as evidence that you meant nothing to them. Someone can choose somebody new and still have unresolved feelings about you.
