@jessemtoolcompany: More pressure doesn’t mean a better mark. 👇 When using a marking gauge, light, controlled pressure is the key to getting a clean and accurate line. Pressing too hard can cause the cutter to follow the grain, wander off your layout line, or remove more material than you intended. Let the cutter do the work. Keep the gauge firmly against your reference edge and use smooth, consistent passes. It might take a little practice, but once you get the feel for it, your layout lines will be cleaner, more consistent, and much easier to follow.
