FAA gives pilot final authority for safety of the aircraft. Wake turbulence separation time increases with size of the aircraft in front. Heavier planes create stronger turbulence. Controllers are not pilots, this one is stressed and wrong. Wake turbulence is serious and can crash a plane.

The safety of the flight at the end of the day rests solely on the PIC. If he says he needs a little bit more separation, he gets a little bit more separation. End Of.

I don't care how long that guy's been in the tower that guy's flying an airplane with people on it if he says he needs to separation he needs to separation there have been airplanes that got into the the wash from a larger plane in front of them and crashed all he's doing is a better job by doing what he just did screw the tower guy

you know I get it both of these guys got their egos hurt. but the pilot is the one that has the most to lose. if there is some wake turbulence from a 757 which there will be he wants to make sure that he's going to be clear of it by the time he does his takeoff roll because if he's not he can get thrown around and possibly die well the guy in the tower is completely safe sitting in a chair behind a screen I did it they both have jobs to do
