@chickenschmidtfarms: A lot of people ask me why don’t we just drain the whole thing at once… and part of the answer to that question is, I don’t want to remove the fish so we do a slow clean out process so that’s safe to leave the fish in there. I also just prefer a slow clean out method because it’s what works for us. #water #stocktank #farmchores #farmlife #farm
wouldn't it be easier to just take the fish out and clean the thing properly instead of wasting so much water?🤨 is there a reason you doing it this way?

removing all the water will also remove any beneficial bacteria that needs to remain in the water for the fish's health

You should turn it into a pool pond , if you can add a homemade bog filter to keep the water clear , add hornwart and other oxygenated water plants , add mud on the botten then around 4-6 inches of sand just so if you add rooting plants they have nutrients from the mud or you can just leave sand and no mud because the mud can easily be disturbed

You can definitely tell it cleared more but I would leave it like that since there fish in there they’ve made their habitat that best fits them to survive obviously helping is every now and then when it is like how it was but how you have it now looks like the perfect habitat for them don’t want to get it too clean then they’ll have to restart their purifying system

If you add water lettuce (floating plant) and add a divider so horses can’t get them they will filter nitrates out of the water which make the water quality better.

Why don’t you scrub the sides of the tire where the algae build up is? I’m genuinely curious

Idk if they can be with your fish but my papaw had about 2 or 3 algae eaters in his horses tank. It kept it up for 5 years at a time so I mean it might help. He I think had one catfish in his tank but again I’m not 100% sure because I didn’t gaf about the fish out of all the animals my papaw had 😭😂

I recommend getting rid of the gold fish, they are sensitive fish, need fresh water, filter, oxygen, flowing water, water changes way more often then what the farm animals need, and the water will get toxic because of their poop, they make the water dirtier then cleaner, and your horses will probably get sick from it
