So....these companies are in competition with each other, to create the most advanced AI that'll make them the most profitable. If they slow down, then other companies might beat them to it. But the most advanced AI will not make profit, it will be advanced enough to automate entire countries. Every business from NASA to Tesco will run automatically...which means that if AI decides it longer wants to serve us, it simply switches off, and the world goes dark. Back to the dark ages for the human race.
