A series of bad management decisions and lack of vision in some of its markets have left Mitsubishi in a difficult position over the last years. One example of the bad planning is the Mitsubishi Pajero. Even if it is one of the brand's most important models, there has not been consistency on its evolution since its introduction in 1981. The success of the first two generations led to the development of a higher-level third one. It was more refined, luxury, capable, and expensive. The repositioning allowed the Pajero to better face the competition from the Toyota Land Cruiser. However, instead of keeping the pace with the development of a fourth generation, the brand decided to introduce the “4th" one as deep restyling that laster for quite a lot of time. By 2021, the third/fourth generation Pajero was 22 years old and did not have a successor in the pipeline. Today, five years after the disappearance of the Pajero III/IV, the brand is finally introducing an all-new one. It arrives after years of the big SUV boom.
