Horowitz remained remarkably calm, keeping Stollman talking until security and police could move in. When the weapon was finally placed on the desk, anchor John Beard grabbed it, and it was discovered to be an unloaded BB pistol. The incident later helped inspire Horowitz to campaign against realistic looking toy guns. What began as a terrifying live television moment ended up influencing public safety laws long after the cameras stopped rolling.
