the mesh won't be adhered to the substrate because he just muded over mesh, instead of loading the wall with your basecoat then put up your mesh and trowel it out, leveling as you trowel and covering the wall and now embeded mesh that is completely adhered to the substrate and incapcelled in basecoat, when cured it will be damm near indestructible.

The wall excluding the blue bonding agent should have been dampened before application. What is the reason for placing mesh under mortar?

Incorrectly used the mesh thou! To prevent cracks it has to bedded in the upper 1/3 of the layer
