@antonio.neal116: Was she right or wrong for saying parents need to teach their kids how to lie to strangers? She says we spend years teaching our kids to be honest but we forget to teach them who doesn't deserve the truth. If a stranger asks your kid what school they go to they should say homeschooled. If someone asks if they live nearby they should say no. If someone at the mall asks if they're alone they should say their parents are in the fitting room. If someone asks about a school sports jersey they should say they thrifted it. Not everyone making friendly conversation has good intentions and your kids need to know that. Do you agree or disagree? They don't need to lie. Teach them their personal life isn't a strangers business. Questions don't require answers.

My teen was being drilled by some lady and she was asking personal questions and then later the lady came to me and said “she doesn’t even know the name of her school” actually she does, she just knows it’s not your business

16 year old girl here, the amount of times that I've been asked where i live is insane. I never give my real name, never give them where I live, and for the most part don't even tell them my real age either, if I'm wearing my school sweater and they ask if I go there, I say it was my aunt's from when she was in school. lie, lie, LIE

How about “its none of your business” or “I don’t feel comfortable answering” or just don’t answer

@HumblyHuman: Teach them that just because someone asks a question it doesn’t mean they’re entitled to an answer. You’re allowed to walk away, you’re allowed to say that you’re not willing to share that information and if someone is hostile towards you, do not fear returning that hostility, F Off is a perfectly acceptable answer to someone who pushes boundaries with hostility.

Love this BUT can we also add for our kids to use eye contact and be polite and kind also. 🙏🏻Sometimes it's just nice small talk (not personal details) and these kids can't "people" very well! Like not one single kid waves, smiles, says hi while headed to school and passing neighbors walking. Like it's a lost art to smile as people pass you by! 🙄

You can not answer in person, too. Just side-eye and walk away. Works every time 😂

I tell my kids that if they need to lie for safety reasons, I’m ok with it! Just fill me in on the details so I don’t mess it up! If you need to blame me and say I am the reason you can’t do something you don’t wanna do, blame me! lol they know when it’s ok and when it’s not ok to lie

I would never teach my kids that everyone is evil. Let’s teach them to use their brains instead of how not to be a member of society. Most people deserve the friendly conversation.

So teach your kid to be a manipulator? Nope! I’ll teach my kid that they don’t need to answer questions, be bold, be blunt, and confront issues or questions head on, instead of having to lie. Because you don’t teach them to lie only to certain ppl, they’ll learn to lie in life. This is very very wrong!!! Teach your kid to be confident and stand up and tell them it’s none of your business and to be ok with that confrontation.

Don’t teach them to lie, teach them to say I’m not going to answer that, that’s a personal question, or simply none of your business.

My oldest daughter was asked what time she got off work (she was handing him his food in the drive thru), she loudly asked “why are you planning on coming back and kidnapping me?” I asked her why she would do that and she said he made her uncomfortable so she returned the favor

Couldn't the child just give them the silent treatment? That would be better then lying as lying can become pathological.
