@whoscollingme: If anyone’s wondering, this was the argument that actually convinced ME to consider spanking abuse after I grew up thinking it was normal my whole life. I would say that I “disagreed” with spanking, but I was scared to call it “abuse”. Until I realized that pro-spanking arguments literally advocate for treating children worse than ANIMALS, and then “disagreeing” with spanking wasn’t enough anymore. I had to call it what it was. #gentleparenting #parentingdoneright
most ppl that think spanking is okay also think hitting their dogs is okay.

My parents would have us pull our pants down and hit us with a wooden spoon. I’m still incredibly affected by it and have near panic attacks when I “get into trouble” with an authority figure (boss or professor). I am 25 years old

Only issue is that when trying to talk to my dad about this issue, he says it IS okay to hit an animal because "its yours you can do what you want". Genuinely sickening.

I was spanked as a child, and I can tell ya‘ll: It does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. It doesnt discipline them, it makes them afraid. It doesnt teach the child why what it did was wrong or why it shouldnt do it, they simply learn „that action = pain“. Thats taught fear. I remember being scared when my father got angry at me because I thought im gonna get spanked (his spanks really hurt). Spanking is abuse, nobody can convince me otherwise.

the argument I use is, if you were in public and some random person put you over their knee and spanked you and in some cases pulledld your pants down and spanked you, you would see that assault and you would press charges. Just because it's your parents doing it does not make it okay in any way shape or form.

and its so normalized bro especially 💔 people would post about their trauma as humor and dismiss it because of their race "What it's like to have black parents 😂😂😂" "what it's like living in an asian household 😝😝😝"

I was spanked, and it didn't help me "learn" anything. it taught me to isolate myself and not talk about my problems. I dont tell my parents ANYTHING. not at all. they dont really know who I am. Spanking (especially if pants+underwear are pulled down) is processed the same as sexual assult.

hitting someone under your authority is arguably worse than an equal if anything 😭

at least in this skit, they only understand at the END. but I currently have a mom who understands that its abuse to hit an animal or another adult, but can't comprehend on how its just as evil to hit a child too.

Idk :
I tried to have this conversation with my mom, she said it wasn't abuse because spanking was in an area no one could see (and generally doesn't leave long term marks) and thus didn't count😬

As someone who was spanked, it didn’t teach me anything other than to be afraid of my parent.

As a mom now, whenever I want to lash out physically, it’s from anger. There’s no way hitting a child is meant to teach a lesson, it’s meant for the parent to get out their anger. That’s why I work on my emotional regulation, so I can guide my child and help them regulate themselves. Even though I get angry I could never justify laying a finger on them.

I feel like an important question and Distinction to ask is “why do you think spanking is ok?” Because I feel like there people who are “well I was spanked and admitting it’s abusive means admitting I was abused” which I understand the fear as someone who was spanked but 1000% refuse to ever lay a hand on a child. And the “I think it’s ok because I have or want to spank my kid because it makes me feel better” which is not ok at all and should be discussed with a therapist

I had my nan turn to me and mention she “had to spank” my uncles a couple times when they were kids but “not hard” because she “didnt like corporal punishment”

Its 2026, and this discussion is still happening??? I've lost my hope in people, yes spanking is abuse, even sexual abuse, insulting your child, demeaning them, and bullying your child is emotional abuse

ah but sadly in the real world, they never go "you're right", they usntead say "but that's different, it's discipline/teaching/raising" or whatever other bs

I wish that more people would take things the way they go in this scenario, but sadly I've seen a lot of pro spanking/corporal punishment in general people rebutt with things like "spanking is different because it's open handed and doesn't leave bruises" or "you should be able to discipline subordinates" and cite something from the military or prison as an example/excuse

I would get severely angry after my mom would do this to me, to the point I genuinely had violent thoughts about her, she was abusing me in so many ways and that was just the cherry on to
