Maya was always my favorite as a kid, and now I wonder if it's because she had more reality to her. I also watched bmw a few years ago with the intention of rewatching gmw to see the similarities and callbacks. I got tired of Cory so quickly, but loved Shawn so much. same reasons I love Maya. grounded characters with struggles and fleshed out issues. Cory and Riley are just ditzy, entitled characters stuck in their own world with no real repercussions to their actions.

unpopular opinion girl meets world just made people stupid like its a good show but all the "life lessons" are just don't leave your friends and Maya was always mad to seem like the "bad friend" when she did nothing wrong like in that one episode when Lucas calls her a name and riley takes his side everyone was acting like Maya was crazy when she just wanted her best friend to support her not to mention the whole "Maya turning into riley" thing why is it so hard to believe Maya liked Lucas before the love triangle became the center of the plot and never said anything cause she knew riley liked him also a little side note I feel like riley (and Lucas and maya) but mostly riley just held everyone back Maya with art farkel with schools better fit for his intelligence and Lucas because she wanted to be the center of everything all the time and disney called it "friendship" but it was only wrong when people were being bad to riley which is so weird to me

I hated the “true Maya” saga so much as someone who relates to Maya on such a deep level, especially the identity crisis she went through in those episodes What really pisses me off about it is she was healing, she was getting good grades, she was on good terms with her mother, she finally wasn't mad at her father anymore, she didn't need to break the rules for attention anymore because she was actually getting treated right, and everyone said she was becoming Riley Yes, she was becoming more like her, but Riley was such a huge positive influence on her life, of course she's gonna be more like her I love Riley but she was so selfish for pushing her to trap herself back in the box of the misunderstood rebel when she was finally growing out of it. Riley was always quick to shit on Maya to make herself or her other friends feel better Like one episode where Farkle was upset, Riley starting going off about how whatever he had going on wasn't anywhere near as bad as Maya's issues so he shouldn't be too worried about it, in front of Maya's fucking face. There were four different scenes I've counted where she did something like this, and Maya never fought her about it Maya was so willing to do anything to keep Riley happy that she let her decide who her true self was for her

people also seem to be forgetting that the characters are also teenagers, when you're a teenager, everything is the biggest deal in the world because your brain is literally ripping itself apart and putting itself back together and (hopefully) the little things that seem like humongous deals are the biggest things that have happened to you, or you're still learning to cope with and understand the things that are going on around you

loved where she was going until the whole "she's becoming riley" thing. I hate how everyone didn't let Maya grow and they thought it was the end of the world when she acted differently or changed clothes.

like I love that show when I was a child but the way they handle disabilities and that's what horrendous like my first ever representation to autism within basically saying who was terrible and that if you got diagnosed with it it's like you're going to die next week when the school just wanted to make sure he got the support he needed and the only way to do that is to confirm if he was autistic or not

I think they tried to do a nostalgia grab like “hey you watched boy meets world we’ll get ur kids to watch this” but boy meets world was actually a good show with good writing and characters
