@jasondadofthree: Not got a clue what to expect over the next few weeks, just hope it helps and I don’t suffer with any of the horrible sounding side effects 😐 #fyp #MentalHealth #mentalhealthmatters #medication #mensmentalhealth
You need a diagnosis in the first place, that should be your priority. A GP is not qualified enough in mental health you need secondary care. NHS mental health services is on its knees unfortunately. You might get seen by a mental health nurse, or a psychologist if you are lucky. I suggest you pay privately to see a psychiatrist, it's expensive but they will write to your GP and you'll get the correct medication ongoing with a proper care plan. I don't know what you're experiencing but let's say the GP thinks it's PTSD and gives you pills, when actually you are suffering from something else. The wrong pills might not give you side effects of nausea, headaches or they could. What you need to be concerned with is they could worsen your mental health status and that may not be reversible. I have experience first hand seeing people deteriorating on GPs advice and ending up in psychosis. You owe it to your lovely wife and children to get this sorted out quickly and that is going to cost a chunk of money, but it will thank yourself later. Good luck 🙏🙏

Good for you taking the hard step… your doing what’s needed for you and those around you.. it’s a big step…… I’ve been on and off them have tried about 6 different types .. some of them don’t work for everyone and will not just give you the side effects in the leaflet.. i suggest that if your partner sees changes in your mood or your attitude the way you speak about every day things.. don’t take it that it’s you and what’s going on in your life or body… when I started these about 2 weeks in I was climbing walls things that I would normally take as a joke I took to heart .. things that were as simple as dropping my keys on the floor turned into keys flying across the room .. and I’ve never been an angry person.. if your partner knows you well and sees things you need to be open minded.. Ive got depression and anxiety.. and only left the house for hospital admission since December 22nd last year.. and been dealing with both for 18 years now.. but not as bad as it’s got the last year.. all the best for the future !!

I was prescribed sertraline when I was 17 (I’m 27 now) and honestly it completely changed my life. Like others have said, it does take a little while to fully kick in so patience is needed and I know some don’t get on with it but for me the negatives far outweigh the positives - hope it helps you to feel better soon! ☺️

Obviously it’s different for everyone but my son has benefited from Sertraline, helps massively with his anxiety and luckily no side affects 🤞

I'm 62..never taken SSRI's before. I was prescribed Sertraline in May of this year and like you I was absolutely petrified to take that first dose. I had seen and listened to other people's horror stories of taking anti depressants however we all respond differently to any kinda new medication that we're prescribed. The first 2-3 weeks aren't pleasant. I was nauseous, had headaches and diahorrea on some days however it was manageable. I struggled with feeling like I had little to no interest in anything but that soon pasted. I hit week 4 and it was like a light bulb being switched on. I started to feel happier, more chatty and generally better in myself. Try not to focus on the negatives of this medication..its helped me so much & I hope it will you too 😊

My doctors said this to me - you don’t produce enough happy hormone , it runs out of your body too fast like a leaking tap - this caps off the tap, if you were a diabetic would you take the insulin ?? Yes - so what’s the difference, same thing your body doesn’t produce enough insulin so you take the meds . Same problem just different meds

I have taken citalopram for many years. It’s saved my life, my marriage and my relationship with my children. Just take it , if the first prescription doesn’t work, push for a better drug. Good luck xxx

Sometimes it will make you worse before you get better. I started citalipram 6 weeks ago and now I'm starting to feel the benefit of sirtraline doesn't work try something else. Good luck and well done for speaking out absolutely no shame in asking for help 👏

Like an asthma sufferer and their inhaler, I'm an anxiety sufferer with her Sertraline. I am a better person for myself, my husband and my children. I do not regret one second on my decision to start taking Sertraline. I'm on 75mg and I just wouldn't change it. Had a review with the doctor and I said I don't want come off it, I'm a much better me... she said absolutely fine, give us a call if you want to change that 🥰
