@unbotheredmoderate: Real life conversations about politics are stressful, but the people who know you personally are the only ones who actually care what you think. Most people online are very committed to their position. You can't save someone who doesn't want to leave the cult, but you can stop some normal people from joining the cult in the first place. #usapolitics #AntiPartisanModerate
Theres a third type - the bots. There are SO MANY bots.

I don't think we will ever get through to each other unless and until the news media starts to report in a neutral and fact based way. They all have way too much influence over people and are way too biased.

I would love an actual moderate party! I’ve always labeled myself as an independent (and not ever voted on party lines) but there’s really no independent party like I wish there was. So now I just vote for balance more than anything.

I love my parents, they adore me. I go there 3/4 days a wk to help. My Dad occasionally insists on talking politics. It turns into my high school years every time (I'm 54)Dad expressing his extreme disappointment.
At work (I'm a literal forensic scientist) I get hit with "I believe in science" and "I'm a good person" as their arguments. There is no trying to understand, that i believe in science, but I also believe in personal responsibility, facts and nuance.

I wish we could go back to the good ole days when people didn’t ever talk about who they voted for , it didn’t matter.

Not the first time I have commented but thank you, again for your common sense delivery and respect. I’m 59 and a lifelong republican/conservative (not crazy just conservative). I like to consider myself a moderate at this point. I really appreciate your opinions.

What would happen if we didn’t have political parties? Maybe we would be forced to actually listen to what is being said by the candidates , how they vote not the blanket identity of their political party. 🤔

I agree on starting with middle ground. It is amazing how much people are willing to open up if they feel safe to.

Always remember that everyone believes they are right. So a large part of this is compassion.

I've been mulling the idea of a podcast where I ask what people I work with would do if they were president. It'd be really interesting

The thing is what I noticed is they want us to watch their news and read their websites that they say trust ! Ummm no ! Some Democrats don’t ever change their vote .

Imagine if we all walked around with our party labels hidden and just talked about the actual issues. Grocery prices, schools, jobs traffic, keeping the lights on. You would probably discover a lot more common ground than the comment sections want you to believe.
Online pile ons are about as useful as yelling at a toaster. Everyone just gets louder and nobody hears a thing.
In real life when you actually sit with someone and listen they often stay open even if they do not flip their vote per se. They might still disagree at the end but at least they heard you and you heard them.
That is a lot better than shouting at a screen. Worth a try next time you bump into a neighbor.

Avoiding politics with family and friends is a strange abandonment of civic duty. The people most willing to hear a different perspective are often those who already know, love, and trust you. You might not change their minds, but that isn’t the point. Dialogue begins with listening, not agreement.
