I don’t trust myself without my seatbelt on my wheelchair 😂 I was very clumsy before I was paralyzed and I fear I would still be the same hahaha. But yes, it can be very annoying to clip on and off before/after transfers 😭

the answer to these questions is almost always "because I don't need it". mobility aids and other disability aids are already additional work to use even if we need them. so adding something else would make our lives harder

I’m not paralyzed but I use a wheelchair for about 70-80% of my mobility, I don’t have a seatbelt on my manual chair but I do on my powerchair. As an ambulatory user it’s generally safer for me to not have the seatbelt so I’m not strapped to my chair if it tips over, but I use it in my powerchair for pelvic positioning! It helps me sit securely in the seat

When I got my custom wheelchair, I was shocked that there was no seat belt! But I'm glad there isn't one because it would be such a pain!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it worse to fall and be stuck in the chair bc of a seatbelt? Besides looking like it would hurt more, it also seems that would make it harder to get up and putting the chair into a normal position again

Honestly, I feel like a zipper attachment might be better for these. Like, it zips to the sides so you can detach it when needed, but you can also zip it up the front so that it's easy to get in and out of. Or, something like a car seatbelt, where you just click a button and it retracts on its own.

I think insurance makes you get a seatbelt if you get a power assist but I took mine off lol

You can just put it on when your out in public doing dangerous stuff that you consider might coming out of it just because the seatbelt is there doesn’t mean you have to put it on for little things like transferring to bed to toilet paper

The seatbelt ist not the problem. The ramp did not give you a chance. You would have been injured with a seatbelt in this situation
