@dramyexplains: Have you ever wondered what actually happens when you’re put under general anaesthetic? It’s not your brain simply “switching off”. Different medicines temporarily affect consciousness, pain, movement and memory, while the anaesthetic team carefully supports your breathing and circulation throughout the operation. #anaesthesia #health #stem #learnontiktok #surgerytiktok
I’ve turned down tonsillectomy 3x due to being terrified of going under, could you explain how breathing works for this particular operation or any throat/nose areas ops please? 🥰

I had a hip replacement 4 weeks ago with a spine block and sedation. I know it's generally less risky than generally anesthetic, but what is the difference in where the brain goes? I honestly felt like I just blinked and it was over, it was amazing! Although very shivery afterwards, but within 30 mins quite happily awake and comfortable.

I had a C-section with my last baby and could feel pain so they gave me something but I don't know what it was. What would be likely? I felt no pain after and felt a really high feeling

It is amazing that it can do what it does and the work of anaesthetists is incredible, but there is a part of me that finds it all quite terrifying. When I’ve had general anaesthetic in the past it was quite literally as if someone had hit the off switch. I wonder if that’s what it’s like when our time comes (trying not to be morbid but that’s what I thought about when I came to)

Can you talk about TIVA and volatiles? They use volatiles mostly where I work (scrub nurse) but we have a gyno who requests TIVA for terminations due to the reduction in bleeding, v interesting!

when you put someone to sleep how do you know the right time to put a tube down the throat, as in how do you know the person is asleep?

I'm gone by the time I count back from 10 to 6. Nothing. Fast forward to the recovery room. Happy to trust the anaesthetist. Think of the torment in earlier times before anaesthesia! 😱 Absolutely marvellous medicine.
