i had a full ride taken from me because the board found out i was still working. they told me i had been awarded the scholarship so i should be able focus on just school and when i explained to them i had other bills in life than board and tuition that was apparently beyond their grasp. god forbid a 19 year old with no family need to pay for car insurance, gas, phone bill etc. it fucking hurt so much to have a board of people decide that i wasn't deserving because i had other responsibilities than school.

I went to art school full time while working 40-50 hours a week and I wondered how my classmates could get their work so refined and done quickly, then I realized I was the only one in my class with a job 😬

my advisor told me to “take time off work” to focus on a class because i went to her to talk about options because I was struggling in it. like? are you going to pay my rent, my gas, and my groceries then??

Felt so stupid when my professor said we should be spending 5 hours a week on homework per class. I take 5 classes… she said it’s like a “normal 9-5” and we should be able to get everything done if we manage our time… BABY I WORK??

I once had a professor require us to attend mandatory 2 hour “study group sessions” twice weekly ON TOP of the class. I was like ????? Some of us (MOST OF US) are also working full time on top of pursuing higher education. they’re so out of touch.

I was on an open day for a uni! one of the professors said sum like " this isn't the place for working people , the moment you get a job I'll see you're not serious about this and I'll have you drop out , your parents have to care for you at least 5 more years " like bro we are all barely paying rent 💀

Me too, but mine said it as a criticism towards the education system. She went on a 30 minute tirade about how we'd have more educated people with degrees if we let them try without fear of debt. She was great

My white sociologist professor who’d go on those long lectures about inclusivity and accessibility in the most passionate way ever !- was so shocked when I told her I take 4 classes because it’s hard for me work and take 5-6 (I have a major and minor) She said “wow I can’t believe you’d do that, most students are supposed to take 5-6. Won’t that affect your graduation date?” Like girl what happened to empathy? Arent you teaching a humanities course 🤨professors can be so tone deaf! not everyone has that luxury!
