♡ 𝓜𝓪𝓾𝓻𝓮𝓮𝓷 & 𝓝𝓸𝓻𝓶𝓪𝓷 ♡ •Newsreel footage of Maureen Connolly and her husband, Norman Brinker, taken on their wedding day in San Diego, 1955. 🤍 In 1954, Connolly was already a successful Tennis player and personality, then known for her infamous Grand Slam win in 1953, when she was introduced to Norman Brinker, an American restauranteur and former Olympic equestrian who she met during a horse riding expedition. Following their introduction, the two began dating and on June 11, 1955, they went on to wed; marrying at a lavish ceremony inside of a San Diego church. Prior to their nuptials, Connolly had been riding her horse in California when the animal was frightened by a passing concrete-mixing truck, bucking her off and trapping her in between its legs and the wheels of the cement mixer. The incident resulted in several fractures and officially ended her Tennis career, leading to a lengthy court battle and eventual settlement of $95k being passed down to Connolly in 1957. Over the coming years, Connolly and Brinker went on to welcome two daughters together, Cindy and Brenda Brinker, and despite her injury, Connolly would often appear at several Tennis related events before in 1966, she was sadly diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, a condition which tragically took her life on June 21, 1969 at the young age of thirty-four. Connolly’s death came as a shock to the Tennis community and following her passing, a private funeral went on be held for the star in California and as of today, she resides alongside her husband at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. ♡ ♡ ♡ 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐌𝐞: @oldhollywoodcouples ♡//: ✨#littlemo #maureenconnolly #tennis #normanbrinker #1955
