At 5:23 a.m. on Saturday, I drove to Dunkin’ because my friend told me he was bored. He was working the opening shift alone. I told him I’d bring coffee. He laughed. “Bring me a donut too.” When I pulled into the parking lot, his car was there. The store was dark. I knocked on the glass. Nothing. I knocked again. His phone lit up behind the counter. He was calling me. I answered. “Where are you?” His voice came through the phone. “Outside.” I looked through the glass. He wasn’t. “What do you mean?” “I’m outside.” His voice sounded closer. Then he whispered, “Don’t come in.” I looked at the front door. It unlocked by itself. Click. I froze. His phone was still sitting on the counter. I could see the screen. My name was on it. The call was coming from inside the store. Then I heard three footsteps behind me. Step. Step. Step. I turned. The parking lot was empty. I called my friend again. His phone rang inside. Once. Twice. Then stopped. I should have left. Instead, I unlocked the door. “Jake?” No answer. The lights were on now. Every single one. The store looked normal. His jacket was hanging behind the counter. His keys were beside the register. His half-finished coffee was still warm. But he was gone. I checked the bathrooms. Nothing. The kitchen. Nothing. Then I noticed the back door. It was open. I ran outside. There were no footprints in the snow. Then my phone vibrated. A text from Jake. I’m hiding in the freezer. I stared at it. The walk-in freezer was ten feet away. I opened the door. Empty. Another message appeared. Don’t answer when it knocks. I heard a knock. From inside the freezer. Three slow knocks. I stepped backward. Then another message. It knows you came for me. The knocking stopped. Something moved behind the shelves. I ran. I locked myself in the office and called 911. While I waited, I pulled up the security cameras. The footage from 5:23 showed me entering the store. Except I hadn’t entered yet. I watched myself walk behind the counter. Then into the kitchen. Then toward the freezer. I called Jake again. His phone rang on the counter. But this time, the ringtone was coming from the security footage. I turned up the volume. Under the ringing, I heard Jake whispering. “Please don’t let it see you.” Then the office door handle slowly moved. Once. Twice. My phone vibrated. A final text from Jake. I’m not in the freezer. I never was. The handle stopped. Something whispered my name from the other side. Then Jake’s voice said, “Open the door.” I didn’t. Because Jake had a very specific way of saying my name. And whatever was outside the office had been listening to him for a long time. #horrortok #scary #scarystories #horrortiktok #dunkindonuts
