Even if you get a new credit card number, the credit card company will give them the NEW NUMBER… This happened to me with lifetime fitness I canceled my membership. They still kept billing me. I changed my credit card number and capital one gave them my new number and proceeded to continue auto billing… I told them this is just like moving away from a stalker and then somebody giving them your new address.🥺

I always take screenshots of cancellations and subscriptions and payments. Always. Receipts cuz data can go ‘missing’ but this screenshot from april 6th didnt DEBRA!

Call your bank and tell them to block that business from pulling money. I had switched cards years ago because I had a similar issue but even with new cards they still pulled money. The bank physically had to go in a block them from taking my money

Make sure you have a downloaded receipt/screenshot of the confirmed cancellation in their app/website and the lack of credits with the date attached to the images cause they can go in and retroactively change any data saved on the website/app

depend on the person who is handling it, I used to work at a gym, instead of keep chasing for a overdue member, as soon as I got the “what’s going on” email from the member, I check they actually didn’t come for the last couple weeks, I just cancel it in the system….😅

If you have your bank replace the credit card, the subscription will not go away. Even if the credit card number changes, it’s possible for old recurring payments to go through if it’s tied back to the same account. Just a heads up because I had this happen to me :(

Honestly, if your card is visa, you can dispute as subscription canceled as of the March date and you have a high chance of winning those disputes. On the visa merchant contracts, if a cardholder says they canceled visa usually sides with the cardholder. - sincerely someone who does chargeback challenges and loses almost all to visa for “subscription canceled” reason.

I always take screenshots/pictures of cancellation verifications. so if anything like this happens, I send them the receipt and ask if they want to refund me or lawyer up

If you live in California, the law is very strict about auto billing. I had to argue with my gym until they escalated to corporate and got the legal team involved. I cited the statutes and they got scared and immediately refunded me in full. Keep pushing; they’ll try to make you seem crazy but you’re right! 😁

my friend had to have emergency surgery and was told she couldn't go to the gym for a few months to recover. She emailed her gym asking to PAUSE her membership. They didn't reply. She called and asked once she was awake and could comprehend through the day and they said they can't do that unless for a good reason so would have to check with the manager and get back to her. She explained her condition. Apparently emergency surgery and a doctor saying not to exercise wasn't a good enough reason. but they took a bit getting back to her so a new month was charged. she cancelled her membership online. next month charge went through again. she called them up saying I cancelled because they wouldn't pause it. they then tried to BS saying oh we thought you wanted it pause so we didn't close your account. Gyms are fucking peditory and do shit like this deliberately
