@tavelarocque: Day 96 of the @HigherUpWellness speak your mind challenge. a fire broke out in a theater. the clown ran out to warn everyone, and they applauded, because they thought it was part of the act. kierkegaard tells this story. a fire breaks out backstage, the clown runs out to tell the audience the building is burning, and they laugh, because they think it's part of the show. he tells them again, and they only laugh harder. that, he said, is how the world ends, amid the universal laughter of people who think it's all a joke. and look how true it got. we've turned everything into content, irony, entertainment. so when something real finally comes, a genuine warning, it arrives wearing the same costume as all the jokes, and we can't tell the difference anymore. we applaud the clown while the theater burns. the danger was never that no one would warn us. it's that we've been entertained for so long we can't tell when someone finally means it. next time something lands as a joke, ask whether the theater's actually on fire. the clown might be the only one telling the truth. #kierkegaard #philosophy #medialiteracy #mindset
