I'd gently flutter my fingers down their forehead and nose. Recently my 14 year old couldn't sleep and I told her how I used to make her sleep and then demonstrated... few minutes later she could barely force her eyes open and she told me how annoying I am that it still works. [Laugh approved]

Other pro tip as an infant teacher. Rock them side to side at a moderate pace. It helps them not focus on anything and then they just slowly close their eyes.
