I take the same classes as my peers. We sit next to each other. We take the same notes. The difference between my 90+ and their 60ish is I do everything expected of me. Like read the mother loving textbook and use active recall strategies. The point is not to teach yourself everything The point is to take responsibility.

Your entire life you’ve been told how things should be done in school, that the syllabus doesn’t matter, you are literally CONDITIONED to think that way. And then when you hit college, it’s completely different than what you’ve been taught literally your entire life

Yes. You are correct. College is really more about determining if you can finish the program. I have hired over a hundred undergraduates. Rarely look at their college transcripts. All I care is did you finish. Are you normal and can you get along with others?

If “the point of college” is for us to teach ourselves the material and to teach us to find answers on our own, then you have to concede that the degree a person holds is essentially meaningless because the point all along was for them to be self-taught, right? There’d be no difference functionally in a person with a degree and one who studied at the public library. The point of college and the weight that a degree holds originates from the fact that if you have one you performed satisfactorily in specific academic circumstances under instruction from extremely high-level professionals in the field. Being taught about a topic is the point of college. Being educated in a particular field.

Yeah, college royally had me P/O'd. you have instructors who act like they're paying for YOUR tuition and treat you like garbage. Then you have the instructors who genuinely didn't teach you anything expecting you to know literally everything about the subject. I get tutors and other resources are there, but the teachers are the first line of education. It's sad there's some who take the job and do nothing.

Part of college is learning how to learn. Most people aren’t taught that before college sadly. Your hand is still frequently held. Not all people of course but many. And a large part is consumption of materials and practicing, you shouldn’t have to sit in a room and work at others pace. So yeah, 3 hrs class per week plus another 6-9 on your own (for just that class). Welcome to adulting. 👍🏻

yeah they literally just press the publish button in canvas every quarter every year on the same curriculum and then sit back and let AI grade our assignments. gotta love when I see the professor left the date on an assignment from like March 2022 😂

I think a lot of the younger generation and I say this as somebody who sits right on the cusp of a millennial/Gen Z is that schools nowadays don’t teach you how to learn they teach you a method (that isn’t even a good one) and then as long as you know that method they pass you nobody learns how to learn anymore that also being said there are some really crappy professors out there.
