@travelwithnoon: He dropped roses from a helicopter to win her heart. It worked, but what he built after they split is the real story. Gunter Sachs married Brigitte Bardot in a Vegas wedding two months after that stunt. They divorced three years later, the same year he turned his penthouse atop Badrutt's Palace in St. Moritz into a pop art fortress: Warhols in the kitchen, a Lichtenstein bathroom, and a bulletproof glass wall guests (Dali included) loved shooting at. Five years after the divorce, he still commissioned Warhol to paint Bardot's portrait. He also founded the Dracula Club, where membership isn't for sale. His son still runs it today. Sachs died in 2011, Bardot in 2025. The tower penthouse he built is still there, and Badrutt's Palace will still book you the room. That Warhol portrait of Bardot he commissioned in 1974 actually sold at Sotheby's in 2012, a year after Sachs died, for close to $5 million. His self-portrait "Fright Wig" was the top lot of the night at $8.48 million, out of a $56 million total sale.

The Tower Penthouse he leased starting in 1967 spans three floors, about 343 square meters, four bedrooms, and two private balconies looking out over the lake. Still one of the most exclusive penthouses in the Alps, and yes, you can book it.

Sachs wasn't the hotel's only legend. Alfred Hitchcock stayed here too, in what's now called the Hitchcock Suite, and it's where he got the idea for The Birds.
