yea i tried to surrender a stray cat and the humane society tried to charge me. and I was like ma'am she came from the streets not my house

I get why this is a thing but it genuinely sucks for when you do find a stray. I had a puppy fall in my egress window while I was sleeping for night shift. Taking it to the shelter and play 20 questions while knowing I was losing sleep was so frustrating.

I did find a stray puppy, they wanted me to pay a surrender fee, told them where I found it and they wanted me to stay there so they could check the cameras, im allergic, I let her out in a rich neighborhood and not even 3 minutes after a little girl came running out with her dad and they kept her

My local shelter refuses to take any animal because the city canceled the contract. Except the city doesn’t have animal control. So nothing actually happens to stray animals. They are literally leaving them to DIE. I’m livid.

Literally everyday at my shelter. Had someone tell me to build more kennels before. like sir we literally have cats in dog crates because we run out of kennels for them.

I was at the shelter for one of my fosters appointments. Someone tried to say they found two cats as a stray. The microchip was registered to the same last name and address as the guy turning them in. 🤦🏻♀️

Ngl, I don’t DISAGREE with this but if shelters tried charging for taking owner surrenders… they would just let them loose. It’s already hard when you go in and see a pet carrier outside the door full of deceased kittens or puppies because the shelter wasn’t open overnight and so they either froze to death or had heat strokes… granted they do have cameras and WILL arrest you. But almost none of them get caught 😭 I had to quit working for animal control after a few years and moved on to ER medicine. Which is also hard… BUT it’s more rewarding in my experience.

I think this happened with one of my rabbits. She was a 4 month old purebred lionhead they “found outside”. I’ve had her 7 years. She wouldn’t last a single second outside.

so my parents paid over 1000 to break my heart as a child. that's crazy. (took at least 10 dogs to the shelter after only 3-6 months)

I work at a rescue and this is 💯 accurate. People suck so bad and the animals are the ones that suffer.

my local shelter was asking $250 for stray surrenders. found out a year later from a friend who worked for that shelter that it wad their way of getting more money cause they were already fully funded and constantly getting money from the city. they never needed the fee. they just wanted it.

I totally understand the staff's perspective, but I feel like this encourages ppl to just dump their pets in the streets/woods to die. I really don't know of a better solution tho.
