The better question is what is going on at home that the child wants to go see the counselor that often? is the mother even addressing that?

As a school counselor, there is a point where we have to set boundaries with students who are trying to see the counselor all the time and push back unless it’s a safety concern and have them stay in class. There’s such thing as task avoidance at times too!

I was attacked verbally by a parent this year at Back to School Night. He called me “dry” (whatever that meant!), grabbed his child’s hand, said, “You’re not going to be in this class!”, and marched out the door to attack the office staff. He spent over an hour with the principal the next day. The child remained in my class, but the dad is not allowed to contact me in any way, shape, or form without a principal present. ☺️Problem solved!

Unfortunately, some principals are afraid of parents. This is probably the case at this school.

I want to know how the parent got to the classroom without going through the main office. In all of the schools I’ve worked at, all of the doors are locked and you have to be buzzed in, directly to the main office. This is dangerous in so many ways. It’s frightening.🙄

And this is why I keep telling people customer service ain’t dead. The customers are. Do you guys not get it? Everybody feels entitled everybody thinks they’re more important than the next guy and what they say matters more. Forget the rules forget the way it’s supposed to be. They don’t care about that as long as they get their instinct gratification.

I had a mom wait for me by my car. Another parent grabbed me by my shoulders. People don’t understand what we go through.

How did the parent get into the building? This parent should be banned immediately from school grounds. Maybe the parent should find out why the student wants to go to the counselor. This parent is one of the reasons why people to leave the educational field. If that parent can do better—homeschool the child.

How did the parent get A) on campus without having to be admitted through the front office? B) Into the classroom because the doors are supposed to be locked at all times.
