BACK IN HER HAPPY PLACE ❤️ July 16, 2016. If you’ve been following Reagan’s story, you may remember the video I shared of her returning to the lake for the first time after the shooting. It was January. Cold. She stood on the dock casting a fishing line, with Sandy right there beside her. That day wasn’t really about fishing. And today’s video isn’t really about swimming. Before July 7, the lake had always been one of Reagan’s happy places. Swimming. Boating. Fishing. Family. Summer. Just being a kid. In fact, the last time Reagan had been at the lake before the shooting was only two days before her life changed forever. We’d already watched her return to the water once during her recovery—but that was different. That was aqua therapy. There were therapists nearby. There was a purpose. The water was being used to help her regain balance, strength and eventually learn to walk again. This time there was no therapy. No exercise. No rehabilitation goal. It was July. It was hot. And Reagan wanted to go swimming at the lake. So she did. ❤️ There are milestones in this story that everyone understands are enormous. Opening her eyes. Speaking. Standing. Walking. Leaving the hospital. Running out of rehab. And then there are moments like this. Things that probably wouldn’t have seemed worthy of pulling out a camera before the shooting. Reagan went swimming. That’s it. And somehow, after everything we’d been through, those three words felt pretty damn wonderful. Because little by little, the places and things that belonged to Reagan’s old life were becoming part of her new life too. The lake was still here. The water was still here. And so was Reagan. ❤️ #ReaganStrong #FightWithClass #LakeLife #TBIRecovery #Swimming
