Why are people obsessed with giving grown professionals the same rules as literal children?

I also think that we need to normalize that teachers and students are not peers. Teachers should not have the exact same rules as students. Teachers can drive to school but 8th graders have to ride with a parent and don’t have that privilege yet…

I am an adult with a MASTERS DEGREE. I am at my job. I can have my phone. I’m not a child.

I have my phone in my pocket because without fail when I don’t, some curriculum material will randomly require me to use 2 factor authentication. Which is only available through the Authenticator app on my phone 🙃 Oh and today my Smartboard’s audio randomly didn’t work, so I would play the audio for the planned videos for my class off my phone 🤣

Mine has alarms on it. Kids come and go all day. It's way easier to remember to an alarm than having to worry about keeping track of the time when I'm working with kids!!!!

I’m on the wrong side of TikTok I’m a parent and in 2026 I want my kid to have her phone full time but I actually worry something will happen and my kids school has a problem I don’t think the question is why do teachers get one but why they are not mandatory

I’m a paraprofessional and I’m literally in every corner of the school with small groups. I have every part of my schedule put into my phone in the form of alarms. I would be so lost if it weren’t for my alarms.

as a multilingual teacher, the amount of times I've used my phone to translate something to brand new babies when they're scared/ nervous.... this whole time it's supposed to be on the desk?! 🤣

Teachers have already been to school as students and passed everything to be where they are. That's why they get to have their phones. Kids need to learn (which we know they're not doing much of these days) and all screens are a distraction.

Our emergency lock down system requires the teacher to have a cell phone on them.

I’m a para and have alarms for when my kiddos goes to certain therapies and services. We also have a group chat in case anyone needs backup or in some one is checking in or out.

Dude, I graduated 5th grade in 2006. It’s been 20 years. I did my due diligence. Also, I don’t use it unless I need to contact someone over something FOR school ABOUT school. It’s not like I’m sitting there on TikTok instead of teaching. Lord. 🤦🏼♀️

At the most basic level, because we are adults who are capable of a quick look at our screen when someone calls and hang up if it is anyone other than our kids' school nurse.

We have apps that send us emergency alerts. We have to take attendance in that app during all emergency drills. The office also calls me if we’re at recess or walking somewhere in the hall and they need a student.

I use mine as a timer, dojo points, and to track my blood sugar (so I don’t have to carry an extra device that interferes with a student’s fm hearing system).

In addition to those reasons, I take attendance, when our WiFi goes out, my phone will still work, also, it is how we receive alerts for emergencies and drills. It is a teaching tool for us, not entertainment
