Tracy was never on a championship team or in a championship situation so for his own legacy purposes Mac valued winning a MVP over a championship. MVP was way more attainable than a ring for Mac.

Tmac averaged 28 during a season when his team won 21 games and he was never affected by it. he didn't care as long as he was scoring. He's already stated making the Hall was more meaningful than a role player getting a ring. he says this stuff every few years

If you think about it the MVP is also a team award because it goes to the best player on the best team. Not the best player in the league, and sometimes not the best individual season.
