When I was in kindergarten, in the 80’s, we had to know our full name, parents names, address and phone number. Kids are only as helpless as their parents allow them to be.

6 is way to old to not know her name. Recognizing it and spelling it. At this point, that's a safety issue.

Millennial here. When I was growing up, knowing, writing and spelling your name was a 3-4 year old skill. Why are we waiting so long to teach our children this?

I have witnessed kids learn and type in the passcodes on parents cell phones at age 2-3 these days. They can type in a 4 digit number on a keypad. She’s just not confident and doesn’t want to do it on her own.

I’m confused why the kid’s name isn’t everywhere. I had toys and books and wall decorations with my name on them as a child. Put her name on her door!

read to your children every single day for the first 10 years of their life and watch how much they excel vs their peers. You have to set a foundation of intelligence as it shapes how they develop and learn in the future

I wonder if this kid might have dyslexia with the letter struggles - obviously that’s impossible to tell in a video like this. I hope mom works with teachers to get her daughter where she needs to be!

by time i was in kindergarten i could spell my first and last name, my mom’s first and last name, and my address. by week 2 of school i knew my lunch number because we were sent home with practice to do it and it was homework. i order for my mom to let me in the house she would ask me something related to the above to make sure i knew it. why would you send your kid somewhere without at least knowing her name and how to spell it? what if she gets lost and she has to spell her names for the cops?

I told my son he had to wipe his own butt and spell his name before he started preschool. it wasn't required because he was 4 but I wanted him to have those minimal skills.

I was SHOCKED my kindergartener had her 8 digit number memorized. They have cards to use if they didn't know it, but she was determined because she wanted to get breakfast on her own.

My daughter’s K class had one single bathroom in the classroom. One toilet. It can take a while when they’re all asking to go at the same time. Especially since when one kid asks, they all suddenly have to go. And I’m sorry, but learning disability aside, there’s no reason a 6 year old shouldn’t be able to recognize their name. Preschool or not. Parents can teach a 3, 4, 5 year old to recognize their name.

My mom taught me to read before school. I'm not some genius, and she wasn't a teacher. She doesn't even like reading. It can be done if you care.
