The house I grew up in had ‘the man in a hat’ he would be in mine and my sisters doorway every night my parents had people over. The first year it scared me. Then it felt that scary man tried harder to protect us than our own parents. A few other people had seen him but only briefly thinking it was a hat rack. I slept peacefully knowing he was in the doorway, knowing he was safer than most the people invited into our house.
