DM me “READY COACH” and let’s build a program that actually works for your body. I want to be careful here because this conversation deserves nuance. Pilates is incredible. Yoga is incredible. I recommend both to my clients regularly. They improve mobility, reduce stress, support recovery, and make you feel good in your body. There is nothing wrong with either of them. But they cannot replace strength training. Physiologically, they just can’t. And telling women to quit the gym because lifting made them feel bulky is one of the most damaging messages we can put out there. Here’s what I can say with near certainty about this situation — without knowing her full story: It wasn’t the lifting that made her feel bulky. It was likely a combination of overtraining (5–6 days a week with no real recovery plan), under-eating protein, chronic inflammation from too much volume and too little sleep, and a program that wasn’t designed for the physique she actually wanted. The barbell didn’t fail her. The program did. And one of the commenters on this video — a 61 year old woman who has lived through every body type — said it better than I could: without skeletal muscle mass, a menopausal or post-menopausal body has nothing to fall back on. The cardio bunny, Pilates-only approach doesn’t survive the hormonal shift. Movement is not one size fits all. That part is 100% true. But whatever movement you choose — Pilates, yoga, walking, swimming — strength training should always be a component. Not optional. Not replaceable. You don’t have to love the gym. But you need to build muscle. Your future self is counting on it.
