He might be protecting himself from future misplaced blame, OR he might be using the photos to reassure himself. If he thinks, "Did I leave the stove on?" throughout the day, he can check the photo and see he didn't. Having everyone tell him his memory of an upsetting event was wrong may have also messed him up

This is good advice for older siblings who get blamed for things that their younger siblings do. Take pictures of what you did or how you left things so if their sibling comes in and makes a mess, the older one has evidence that they didn't make a mess.

He didn’t trust himself because no one trusted him. His memory likely got confused and it feels bad when you are sure of something but start to doubt it because everyone else thinks something else of you. It’s not really about being able to defend himself against her specifically. But about knowing his own mind, because he has learnt it isn’t trusted, probably even by himself. He has developed an anxiety disorder from his trauma. Making it about her is just minimising what he went through blaming himself and doubting his own memories.
