@newtx.realty: Where all my fake-paystub professionals at?! 😂 Y'all have officially made renting harder for everybody. I spoke with a client who is applying for an apartment, and she told me the income-verification system wasn't satisfied with simply receiving her pay stubs. She also had to verify employment AND securely connect financial information so the system could confirm that the income being represented was actually hitting her account. And while she's explaining this to me, I'm thinking: This is exactly what happens when enough people start submitting fake documents. The few people running scams make the process harder for everybody else. It used to be: “Here's my pay stub.” Now we're moving toward: ✔️ Verify employment ✔️ Analyze the pay stub ✔️ Verify the income source ✔️ Compare deposits ✔️ Check for document inconsistencies ✔️ Confirm the applicant is actually earning what they claim And landlords have reasons for becoming more careful. I've spoken with property owners who approved applicants based on seemingly strong documentation—only to have rent problems almost immediately after move-in. That is a nightmare for a landlord. But let's be fair: Seeing someone stay home all day doesn't prove they don't work. Remote jobs exist. And one late payment doesn't prove their documents were fraudulent. The lesson is that landlords increasingly don't want to rely on appearances or one PDF anymore. They want independent verification. And renters need to understand something too: If you're asked to connect a bank account, make sure you're dealing with a legitimate verification provider. Understand what information you're authorizing them to access. You should not simply text or email your banking password to a landlord or random property manager. Welcome to tenant screening in 2026. The scammers keep getting more sophisticated… and the verification systems keep getting more sophisticated right behind them.
