@caledronia8: Paisley, Renfrewshire in Scotland, was the scene of what became the last mass execution for witchcraft in Western Europe. In 1697, six people were strangled and their bodies burned at Gallow Green following the extraordinary accusations of 11 year old Christian Shaw. More than 300 years later, the story still lives on through Paisley folklore, from the so called Witches' Well to the horseshoe embedded at Maxwellton Cross, traditionally associated with the burial place of their remains.
