@climate.revolution: A data center in Secaucus spilled at least 5,500 gallons of diesel fuel into Anderson Creek, a tidal tributary connected directly to the Hackensack River. The spill reached the Anderson Creek tidal wetland made up of mudflats, marsh vegetation and habitat that supports fish, shellfish, insects, worms, birds and other wildlife. Even without an immediate fish kill, diesel can damage organisms at the bottom of the food chain and contaminate marsh vegetation and sediment. This is exactly why regulating data centers town by town is not enough. Pollution does not stop at municipal borders. Jersey City and Bayonne can ban data centers, but they are still connected to the same river system impacted by a spill in Secaucus.
