@americantravelarchives: This dish is NEVER the same twice 🍤 Follow americantravelarchives for more hidden gems and send this to the person you want to explore Georgia with 📍 Savannah, Georgia Episode 46 of 250 🇺🇸 Our waitress at the Pirates’ House told us shrimp and grits is never the same dish twice, that it changes depending on who’s cooking it. So we ordered it at every restaurant that had it for the rest of the trip. She was right. The Shrimp Factory on River Street was heavier with a bigger portion. The Olde Pink House was lighter with way less sauce, and that one was our favorite, maybe the best meal of the trip. Things to Know 👇 🍤 It started as a fisherman’s breakfast called breakfast shrimp, cooked one pot on the boat 📖 The first printed recipe was in a 1930 Charleston cookbook, credited to William Deas, a Black cook and butler 🍽 It only became a dinner menu dish in the 1980s after the New York Times ran a chef’s version 🏴☠️ We tried it at the Pirates’ House, the Shrimp Factory and the Olde Pink House 🥇 The Olde Pink House won, and it was the simplest one of the three Order it at more than one place. Same three ingredients, completely different dish every time. Where have you had the best shrimp and grits? 🍤
