🚨 Handling the “eye- roller”👇 🧠 It can feel disrespectful when someone rolls their eyes during a conversation which if you’re their manager can lead you to react in a way that perpetuates the dynamic. Eye-rolling as shown in this video is a form of passive aggressive communication that people use when they feel unable or unwilling to communicate what the issue is directly (there can be many reasons for this). ▶️ We can all be guilty of this from time to time but ideally we want to avoid doing it as to build strong relationships we need to communicate concerns/ issues directly rather than holding them in and communicating them unconstructively. 💡As the manager I would recommend you respond in a way that creates safety and models honest & transparent communication so you can understand what the issue is behind the eye-rolling. Phrases like: “I noticed you rolled your eyes- what’s bothering you” If they say nothing is wrong try: “It matters to me if something is bothering you. It would be good to know what that is so we can address it” 🚫 Try to avoid “telling them off” as this is likely to perpetuate the behaviour.   🔥 It the passive aggressive behaviour continues then I would recommend reinforcing the need for open communication and setting boundaries. ⭐️ Please note sometimes people who are neurodivergent experience involuntary eye movements. They are not being passive aggressive so always check. You’ve got this 💪 💬 Leave a 🙌 in the comments if this was helpful 👀 #worktips #leadershipdevelopment #passiveaggressive #eyeroll #communicationskills #corporatelife #emotionalintelligence #managingpeople #communication #managertips #difficultconversations #difficultpeople
