i have zero recollection of ever being alone with my grandpa. he went to jail a few years back for molesting my cousin. she and i got to talking and she said “[awful scenario where he hurt her WHILE I WAS THERE] don’t you remember?” and it killed me to tell her that i didn’t. i had to emphasize that i do NOT doubt her at all but i just.. don’t remember at all.

sometimes it isn’t trauma. The unfortunate part is- if you don’t remember something you’ll eventually lose it forever. so if your brain never cared enough to store it, it’s just… gone. It’s why photos and other pieces of media are so important, they can help trigger the memories.
