it's a shame though. they said they really needed me, they said I was their favourite person out of everyone, they clearly needed a lot of support - yet they didn't respect any of my boundaries, if I said I was tired and unavailable or tried any sort of communication at all, their eyes kind of glossed over like they were just waiting for me to shut up so they could start speaking about themself, they wouldn't ever hold a single inch of space for me while I held space for them anytime.. how could I be expected to just accept that? I want people who are equals to me, not people who want me to take care of them.

giving up and letting go are two VERY different things imo. like in this context i see it as your letting go if something thats impacting you negatively. there is no useful purpose anymore. BUT if it was the opposite i’d say your giving up on something hopeful/positive/and impactful to you.
