It's great they want to retain her and value her but they can't keep gentle parenting her. Having only one person who can do an important thing is bonkers and will not end well. If she has had dings in her audit then she needs another set of eyes

I will say I sort of had an employee who did this. Her team had been moved under my department after her previous manager took another job. She had a huge project that she controlled with a lot of secrecy. I tried to open it up and shed some light on her processes. She quit. I think she thought we would fall apart and that would be her “revenge” but once she was gone, we were able to quickly peel back the layers and figure it out. The person who took that project over THRIVED. She was one of the best employees I ever had. I left that job years ago and she’s still there, kicking ass.
