there's way too much source material that, in exact fashion of everything else they've done so far to the lantern mythos, they didn't faithfully include. if they do in fact plan go the parallax route, which is so ridiculously too early, its gonna diverge way too drastically from the comics. also it definitely feels like we have to assume some botched version of the parallax storyline just cuz of how dirty they did hal jordan. if parallax or even the spectre storyline never gets done then all we'll be left with is a retroactive realization that they just decided to screw over hal's character in favor of hyping up john stewart as thee green lantern.

I think Hal gets the ring back at some point. John plainly looks for it and looks like he is wearing it on the alien world with Hal-o. He probably leaves it hiding for John and since Hal doesn't actually die it doesn't choose the next Lantern.
