@borntoserve07: What if healing doesn’t mean you have to stop caring? What if it means you have to stop caring in the same way that exhausted you? Some caregivers think healing begins when the situation ends. But what if healing can begin while you're still in it? Maybe the question isn't, “How do I get back to the caregiver I used to be?” Maybe it's: Do I even want to go back to that version of me? The one who said yes when she needed to say no. The one who carried everybody and quietly put herself last. The one who thought being “the strong one” meant never needing anything. Sometimes healing isn't about returning to who you were before burnout. Sometimes healing is becoming someone new because of what burnout taught you. And that may be the hardest lesson of all: You can still be loving without carrying everything. You can still be dependable without being available for everything. You can still be a caregiver without disappearing inside caregiving. Maybe the old way doesn't need another repair. Maybe it's time to build a new way — one that includes you, too. Tonight's question: Which is harder for you: letting go of the past, setting boundaries, choosing yourself, or leaving your old way of caregiving behind?
